Jacob Clifford, Founder
My name is Jacob Clifford and I am a teacher at San Pasqual High School in Escondido, California. SPHS is a Title I suburban high school with a diverse student population. In 2004, I was asked to develop a summer bridge program that prepared new students for the rigor of Advanced Placement* courses. The school’s AP program had grown significantly and the district was worried that some students did not have the requisite skills. To make sure the students were ready, I created Boot Camp.
The following year, my students, many of which had never taken an AP class, participated in the first Boot Camp. The goal was to develop essential skills by utilizing hands-on experiential learning activities. Students were able to practice specific skills, reflect on their performance, and make goals for improvement. Immediately, I witnessed greater enthusiasm and significant improvements in student involvement. Students were more willing to help each other understand challenging concepts and participate in class discussions. It became clear that the benefits of skill-building were not limited to AP students. Boot camp could be adapted to meet the specific needs of other programs.
After years of success, colleagues encouraged me to make the program available to other schools and districts. I founded ACDC Leadership and Consulting in 2007. Since then, I have worked hard to share this powerful program with other educators. In addition to providing the digital resources, my staff and I lead workshops and trainings designed to help schools develop effective programs. At the request of teachers, I expanded my services to include many of the resources needed for specific activities.
In 2007, I became a College Board Consultant and started leading workshops teaching eductors how to teach AP* Economics. I also began posting economics video lessons on Youtube (see my channel) and selling economics resources online at the request of teachers and students worldwide.
